Typical CPC Ranges by Platform (2026)

Rough industry ranges for ecommerce and retail advertisers. CPC swings with category, geography, competition, and season, so treat these as a gut check, not a guarantee.

What Is CPC (Cost Per Click)?

CPC stands for cost per click, the amount you pay each time someone clicks your ad. It is the core efficiency metric for every pay-per-click channel an ecommerce seller touches: Google Search and Shopping, Meta, TikTok Shop, Amazon Sponsored Products, and the sponsored placements inside marketplaces like Shopee and Lazada. Where CPM prices the impression and CPA prices the conversion, CPC prices the moment of interest, the point where a shopper stops scrolling and asks to see your product. For sellers, CPC is the number that decides how much traffic a given budget can actually buy before anyone adds to cart.

How Do You Calculate CPC?

The CPC formula is CPC = Ad Spend ÷ Clicks. If you spent $3,000 and the campaign delivered 3,300 clicks, your CPC is 3,000 ÷ 3,300 = $0.91. The relationship rearranges two more ways, which is why the calculator above lets you solve for any of the three variables. To find the clicks a budget buys: Clicks = Ad Spend ÷ CPC, so a $5,000 budget at a $0.80 CPC buys 6,250 clicks. To find the budget for a traffic target: Ad Spend = Clicks × CPC, so 10,000 clicks at a $1.20 CPC costs $12,000. Pick "Clicks" or "Ad Budget" in the Solve for switch to run either planning calculation without opening a spreadsheet.

Actionable Insight: A falling CPC is only good news if click quality holds. Broad, cheap clicks from poorly matched audiences will drop your CPC and raise your cost per order at the same time. Always read CPC next to conversion rate, not on its own.

How to Calculate CPC From CPM and CTR

If you buy on an impression basis, you can derive your effective CPC without waiting for click reports. The formula is CPC = CPM ÷ (CTR × 1,000), which is often written as CPC = CPM ÷ (CTR% × 10) when CTR is expressed as a percentage. A $9 CPM at a 1% CTR gives 9 ÷ (1 × 10) = $0.90 per click. Drop that CTR to 0.5% and the same $9 CPM produces a $1.80 CPC, twice the price for identical reach. This is the single most useful relationship in paid ecommerce: creative that lifts click-through rate halves your cost per click without you touching a bid. Enter your impressions in the optional field above and the calculator works your CTR and effective CPM out for you, so you can see all three metrics move together.

What Is a Good CPC? Benchmarks by Platform

There is no universal "good" CPC, because a click is worth whatever your average order value and margin say it is worth. A $1.50 CPC is expensive for a TikTok Shop reach campaign, normal for Google Search retail terms, and cheap if you sell a $400 product at 50% margin. As rough 2026 ranges: Shopee and Lazada sponsored placements sit around $0.05 to $0.25, TikTok around $0.30 to $1.00, Google Shopping around $0.50 to $1.00, Meta around $0.50 to $1.50, Google Search retail terms around $0.60 to $1.60, and Amazon Sponsored Products around $0.80 to $1.80. SEA marketplace CPCs are dramatically lower than Western social and search CPCs, which is why a seller expanding from Shopee into Meta often gets a shock. Set the Platform benchmark in the calculator and it will tell you whether your CPC is cheap, typical, or expensive for that channel. The only benchmark that truly matters, though, is your own break-even: multiply your gross profit per order by your conversion rate to get the maximum CPC you can pay and still make money. A $30 gross profit at a 2% conversion rate means you can pay up to $0.60 a click.

CPC vs CPM vs CPA vs ROAS: What's the Difference?

These four metrics measure the same campaign at four different depths of the funnel. CPM is the cost per 1,000 impressions, so you pay to be seen. CPC is the cost per click, so you pay for interest. CPA (cost per acquisition) is the cost per conversion, so you pay for a result. ROAS (return on ad spend) is revenue divided by spend, the overall verdict. They chain together: CPM and CTR determine CPC, and CPC and conversion rate determine CPA, since CPA = CPC ÷ conversion rate. A $0.60 CPC at a 2% conversion rate produces a $30 CPA, while the same $0.60 CPC at a 1% conversion rate produces a $60 CPA. That chain is why a cheap CPC never guarantees a profitable campaign. Why CPC Matters for Multichannel Ecommerce Sellers

If you sell across Shopee, Lazada, TikTok Shop, Shopify, Amazon and more, CPC is how you compare the real price of traffic across channels that price attention completely differently. A Shopee Ads click at $0.12 and a Meta click at $0.90 look like an easy decision until you factor in what happens after the click: marketplace shoppers arrive with high purchase intent but into a page surrounded by competitors, while a Meta click lands on your own store where you control the offer and keep the customer relationship. The common mistake is chasing the lowest CPC across the whole account. Cheap clicks that never convert quietly inflate your blended CPA while the CPC column looks excellent. Judge CPC per channel against that channel's conversion rate and post-fee margin, not against each other in a single league table. Pair this calculator with our break-even calculator to work out the order volume that justifies the spend.

How to Lower Your CPC Without Losing Traffic Quality

A handful of levers reliably move the number. Lift click-through rate. Because CPC = CPM ÷ (CTR% × 10) on impression-priced inventory, better creative and sharper headlines cut your cost per click directly, and most platforms reward high engagement with cheaper auctions on top. Improve relevance and quality scores. On Google and Amazon, tighter keyword-to-landing-page matching lowers what you pay for the same position. Go long-tail. Head terms carry the highest bids; specific, lower-volume keywords convert better and cost a fraction as much. Add negative keywords. Blocking irrelevant queries stops you paying for clicks that were never going to buy. Mind the calendar. CPCs spike during 9.9, 11.11, 12.12, Prime Day, Black Friday, and Q4 as everyone bids for the same shoppers, so shift discretionary spend to shoulder periods. Fix the landing experience. A faster, clearer product page raises conversion rate, which raises the CPC you can profitably afford even if the number itself does not fall. Track CPC by channel and by week, benchmark each against the ranges above, and treat any sustained rise as a signal to refresh creative or tighten targeting. For sellers running paid traffic into several marketplaces at once, OneCart keeps SKU-level margin, channel fees, and order data in one place, so your CPC decisions connect to real per-order profit rather than to a dashboard number in isolation.
